SPEAK UP AGAINST WG PAY DISPARITY
AFGE Local Officers and Stewards have been working to bridge the gap between WG and GS pay scales. A proposal to reform the Federal Wage System ( FWS ) has once again moved into the early stages of the governments rulemaking process. The proposal, if finalized, would amend the FWS for blue-collar government workers more closely aligning it with the locality pay areas for the General Schedule ( GS ). An Estimated 15,000 blue-collar feds would see their pay rates increase. During the July Federal Prevailing Rate Advisory Committee ( FPRAC ) meeting, the Local expressed mounting frustration around the proposals advancement but reminds everyone that the problem still exists.
Year after year, workers struggle with the thought of not getting equal pay than their counterparts in similar occupations and locales. Blue collar voices are never heard but expectations on work performance and quantity steadily increase. AFGE Local 1647 takes the fight to every politician to explain the disparity that is normally fallen to deaf ears.
We are asking all employees who are tired of not being heard, tired of being underpaid and tired of being taken advantage of, to join the fight with us. Your voice will be heard. In the near future, the next phase will be moving to the Public Comments Section of the Federal Register. The Local asks that all affected employees to send an email explaining how you have been impacted.
There is strength in numbers, and the larger the number, the bigger the voice.
Please stop up or contact the local union office for information and literature on how you can help.
